Uses
Pomegranates can be eaten fresh, once the rind is removed the arils can be eaten whole, juice and the seed inside. They can also be juiced, or added whole to salads, smoothies or fruit dips. They can be used as a garnish on meat dishes or last minute addition to savory sauces. Pomegranates are famed for their high antioxidant levels, they also have high amounts of fiber and vitamins.
Care
Pomegranates are large shrubs with lots of small, spiny branches and thin green leaves with red veins. Large red trumpet shaped flowers cover the tree before the fruit arrives. Pomegranates can grow in poor soil, but need consistent watering and benefit from lots of mulch. They can handle temperatures into the 20s.
