Uses
The sap of the sapodilla is the basis for all modern chewing gum, some brands still use this natural source. The fruit is brown and fuzzy on the outside, the inside is edible, the consistency of a pear. The taste is sweet, like brown sugar. There are a few shiny dark brown seeds in the center. They are eaten fresh, and high in vitamin C and fiber.
Care
Sapodillas are slow growing trees, there are some over a hundred years old and still producing fruit. The tree are strong and wind resistant, they can handle various soils and once established droughts and brief flooding.
